College Visions is a 21-year-old Providence non-profit that helps low-income students get to college and succeed once there. Every student in the 2023–2024 class of their College Access Program was admitted to college, with destinations including URI, RIC, CCRI, Bentley, Hampshire, Smith, Stanford, and UMass Boston. Our job will be to give a practice college-admission interview to each of the 95 students enrolled in CV’s Summer Prep Program and to provide feedback to them. The Summer Prep Program serves a wide range of Providence public school students. Some of the students are planning to attend college, while others are just beginning to think about it. The program introduces students to all their postsecondary options.

No prior interviewing experience is required. These are basically get-to-know-you conversations. Written briefing will be provided beforehand. Please bring along any college-grad friends or family to interview too! Add them to your registration.

There are four half-hour interview time slots grouped into two sessions:

It simplifies logistics greatly if you stay the entirety of Session A or Session B — or both! — but you can come for any number or combination of interview slots. Please arrive 15 minutes before your first interview and allow at least an additional 15 minutes for parking. Lunch in the RISD cafeteria will be provided free to any volunteer wishing to partake.

Bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially appreciated. A handful of students will be English-language learners, and we want them to be focused on interview skills, not language.

This will be the third mock interview event we have organized for CV's summer program. It is a fun and rewarding time for interviewers. For many of the students, it was the first time in an interview situation. They get so much out of it, and they carry the experience for life. They truly appreciate it.

Thanks for stepping forward to help them leap ahead!
